Marie L. Gordon AOE, KC (Retired)

Marie L. Gordon retired at the end of 2018, after 35 years with the firm. She joined McBean Becker Cochard & Gordon in 1983, and was grateful to practice for many years with the late Jean McBean KC, Renee Cochard KC, Ruth Becker, Susan Zwaenepoel KC, and Leith Martin along with the current partners of the firm.
Marie has always had a long-term passion for both the theory and practice of family law, and in addition to her busy practice, she found many ways (teaching law students, judicial education, writing, and assisting with family law reform) to share her interest in making the process of separation and divorce more equitable and less painful for the parties. She received the Pringle Royal Teaching Excellence Award from the Faculty of Law, the U of A Alumni Honour Award, and in 2017 was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in recognition of her work as a family lawyer, activist, educator and author. She continues to serve as a volunteer lawyer with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre, helping low-income individuals with family law issues.
