Michelle L. Mackay

Barrister & Solicitor / Mediator / Arbitrator

Michelle Mackay assists clients with all family law matters, including divorce and common law separation, custody, parenting, child and spousal support, matrimonial property division, common law property division, and imputation of income.

Michelle recognizes the emotional difficulty of family law and prioritizes work towards a respectful and honest negotiated settlement. Where that is unattainable, she has a strong record of family litigation before the Provincial Court, Court of King’s Bench, and Court of Appeal of Alberta.

Michelle graduated from law school at the University of Alberta where she volunteered with Student Legal Services and participated in the Gale Cup and Jessup Moots. Michelle was called to the Alberta bar in 2001, articled for Gordon Zwaenepoel (now Bruyer & Mackay), and has practiced family law with this firm since.

Michelle has taught family law at the University of Alberta since 2003, is an instructor with the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA), and a facilitator with the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education. She has presented numerous papers at the Annual Banff Refresher Course in Family Law and with LESA. Michelle is also a volunteer with the Child Support Resolution Office at the Law Courts.
