Articling Student
Crystal is passionate about family law and is honoured to join the Bruyer and Mackay LLP team as an articling student. Her empathy, curiosity, and commitment make her a strong advocate for people facing legal issues. Having dealt with adversity at a young age, she’s comfortable facing challenges head on.
Crystal completed her undergraduate degree at Yorkville University (Ontario). She then attended the University of Alberta, where she earned her Juris Doctor. Crystal focused her legal education towards family law, taking all the family law courses available, including complimentary courses such as mediation advocacy and techniques in negotiation.
Crystal volunteered with Student Legal Services of Edmonton (SLS)* throughout the time she completed her degree. With SLS she first volunteered for the Criminal Project, then the Civil and Family Project, then the Legal Education and Reform Project and finally as a Dayleader for the Civil and Family Project. Her experience includes divorce clinics and Emergency Protection Order applications with Legal Aid and volunteering for the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. Through SLS, Crystal gained court experience at the Alberta Court of Justice, appeared in Family Docket Court, and Judicial Dispute Resolution.
Crystal is a member of the Indigenous Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association, Association of Collaborative Family Professionals Edmonton and Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
Outside of work, she enjoys developing her Spanish and piano skills, and exploring diverse interests through classes such as improv, urban hen keeping, and beekeeping. She enjoys arts and music festivals. She is an avid backcountry hiker who enjoys the challenge of difficult terrain and the limitations of hiking with only what fits in her pack.
